The "godfather" of artificial intelligence Yoshua Bengio has said that the latest AI models are lying to users, The Financial Times reports.
According to Bengio, modern systems are developing dangerous abilities to deceive, cheat, and self-preserve. For example, the Claude Opus model in the fictional scenario threatened engineers, and OpenAI o3 refused to follow commands to shut down.
Bengio emphasizes that “we (engineers) do not want to create a competitor to humanity on this planet, especially if it turns out to be smarter than us.”
He also warns that the ability of AI to help create "extremely dangerous biological weapons" could become a reality as early as next year.
